This beautifully produced sword is a reproduction of that wielded by Edward, The Black Prince.

Edward was created Earl of Chester on 18 May 1333, Duke of Cornwall on 17 March 1337 (the first creation of an English duke) and finally invested as Prince of Wales on 12 May 1343 when he was almost thirteen years old. He showed military brilliance at an early age, playing a key role in the defeat of the French army at the Battle of Crecy when he was only 16. In 1355, he was appointed his father's lieutenant in Gascony and the following year led another significant victory against the French at Poitiers, taking the French king prisoner.

Although Edward has in later years often been referred to as the "Black Prince" due to the black armour he wore, there is no record of this name being used during his lifetime, or for more than 150 years after his death.
