The last Cavalry officer's model to be adopted, the 1912 was designed after the Trooper's sword introduced in 1908. The 1912 Pattern cavalry officer's sword is of the same basic form as the 1908 trooper's version, but in a more decorative form.
The 1908 Pattern Cavalry Trooper's Sword was the last service sword issued to the cavalry of the British Army and was widely considered the most effective cavalry sword ever designed. Ironically though its introduction occurred as swords finally became obsolete as military weapons.
