The Practical Hand-and-a-Half is a straight-bladed sword renowned for being lightweight, yet powerful, able to pry open plate armour. The swords are versatile and effective because they can be wielded with two hands, yet a fighter could also wield it with one hand if they fought using a shield. This sword is tailored to meet the needs of re-enactment and stage combat with fully tempered, un-edged and un-pointed blades
Most hand-and-a-half swords have simple "cruciform" hilts. The term "hand-and-a-half" may have originated due to the fact that the sword was designed for both one and two-handed use.
This Practical Hand-and-a Half sword is based on the Albrecht sword, a classic design from the early part of the 15th Century, with a simple cruciform hilt, flattened diamond-section blade and typical hand-and-a-half grip.
