Richard the Lionheart chess set. The famous Couer de Lion Richard the Lionheart was known as such even before his accession, because of his military reputation. At just 16, Richard had his own command, putting down rebellions in Poitou against his father, Henry II. Richard was a central Christian commander during the Third Crusade, effectively leading the campaign after the departure of Philip Augustus, and scoring considerable victories against his Muslim counterpart, Saladin.
This chess set depicts the central characters of the Third Crusade and is outstanding in the level of detail in the pieces.
Please note the price is for the pieces only and does not include the chess board.
